St Kieran’s Celebrates Annual Festival in Honour of Maria Annunziata

After a triduum of Masses, homilies, prayers and the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, Our Annual Parish Festival in Honour of Maria Annunziata is being held today at 10.00am followed by the Procession and Benediction after the Mass. Programmes are available in the porch. All welcome!

How it all started.... “From a tiny spark bursts forth a great flame”. In a spectacular landscape, nestled in the Nebrodi mountains, at 630 metres above sea level, is situated the town of Raccuia. With a magnificent panorama of a multitude of green tones and myriads of different colours, Raccuia invites the visitor to a sense of calm and serenity. The healthy country cooking, where the strong Sicilian flavours are savoured and appreciated by the connoisseur, not only nurtures the body but also the soul.

The quietness, the mountain air, the good food and the affectionate welcome of the people, make Raccuia a delightful town.

However, there is another reason why the visitor who comes from Perth, and more specifically from the parish community of St Kieran’s, Osborne Park, is attracted towards Raccuia.

As it is known, in the Cathedral of Raccuia there is the statue of the Annunciation whose replica, through the faith and the commitment of a group of people, in 1971 was sent to us in Perth. This, in a sense, makes us feel spiritually united with the people of Raccuia.

The inhabitants of Raccuia recount the many miracles bestowed on them by the Madonna, one of which is that of the flood of the 21 of February 1931 that threatened to wipe out a village called Zappa.

The Madonna also continues to propagate graces to the faithful here in Osborne Park and bonds together in a spiritual twinning, the two communities that, even if distant are united in the one faith.

Maria Annunziata Annual Celebration
Last Sunday was a very beautiful and successful day for the Italian community. The weather was kind to us and everything went according to plan. It’s good to see so many people enthusiastic and prayerful in honour of Our Lady Annunziata. Sincere congratulations and God’s Blessings to the Italian community and special thanks to the organising committee. Well done!
