Feast Day of Maria Annunziata
Sunday 28 May 2000

Father Michael Gatt, parish priest of St Kieran’s parish in Osborne Park and pictured left, blessed the statue of Maria Annunziata on Sunday 28 May as part of the day organised by the Maria Annunziata Association.

The day saw solemn Mass celebrated in honour of Our Lady under this title and a procession in the grounds of the parish. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick was also conferred.

The Association consists mainly of people who come from Raccuia in the province of Messina in Italy where most villages honour Our Lady as their patron.

The Shrine at St Kieran’s Church has a large leadlight window in an abstract design in the colour usually associated with the Mother of God, blue, in the background. The statue shows the angel declaring to Mary that she is to be the Mother of God.

Each year, on the feast of Maria Annunziata, a procession and social gathering is held to commemorate the feast.
